Located in the quaint, rural town of Hamilton, Tasmania, the Hamilton Camp Ground has become a valued asset for locals and visitors alike. Central Highlands Council sought to enhance community amenities with a facility that would not only provide essential services but also reflect Hamilton’s traditional, rural charm. Modus delivered a solution that combines functionality with aesthetics, fitting seamlessly into the town’s landscape and meeting diverse community needs.

Challenges and Project Needs

The Central Highlands Council outlined several key requirements to make the Hamilton Camp Ground facility a success:

1. Aesthetic Compatibility: Hamilton’s small-town, country atmosphere required a building that harmonized with its quaint surroundings.

2. Enhanced Community Services: Hamilton lacked public restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities, particularly at the adjacent caravan park and Bicentennial Park, which features a popular playground.

3. Universal Accessibility: The facility needed to be fully accessible and AS1428 compliant to accommodate individuals with high-needs accessibility.

Our Solution

To address these requirements, Modus Australia provided a Byron Building paired with Exteria’s Heritage Shelter, creating a structure that met both functional and aesthetic needs.

  • Design and Aesthetics: The Byron Building’s traditional Victorian-inspired design—with a gable roof, finials, and corner braces—perfectly matched Hamilton's country charm. Finished in Colorbond’s Surfmist and Windspray, the building complements the town’s landscape.

To address these requirements, Modus Australia provided a Byron Building paired with Exteria’s Heritage Shelter, creating a structure that met both functional and aesthetic needs.

  • Comprehensive Amenities: The facility includes two standard toilets, two ambulant toilets, a universal access toilet with shower, three shower modules, a laundry, and a service area. This setup supports the needs of campers, locals, and tourists enjoying the town and nearby parks.
  • Complete Heritage Facility Suite In collaboration with Exteria, we added an info shelter for local events and a spacious park shelter with table settings, all crafted in the same heritage style as our toilet facility.

An Outstanding Result

Since its installation, the Hamilton Camp Ground facility has received enthusiastic praise from the community and council. The mayor and council members highlighted the positive impact on residents and visitors, with feedback emphasising the comfort and utility of the showers, laundry, and universal access options. Locals report extended visits to the parks and town attractions, thanks to the convenience and functionality of the new facilities.

This project stands as a testament to Modus Australia’s commitment to blending community-centered design with practical solutions, offering a high-quality amenity that enhances Hamilton’s appeal and serves the Central Highlands community for years to come.
