Padua College in Victoria partnered with Modus Australia to design and build a modern, durable, and anti vandal toilet and changing facility to support the school's growing sporting and recreational spaces. The school needed a facility that could withstand heavy use while integrating seamlessly with its existing infrastructure. A key focus was ensuring the design provided practical, high-quality changing rooms and toilets to accommodate students, referees, and umpires during sporting events.

Challenges and Project Needs

The school required a prefabricated modular toilet and changing facility that addressed key issues in school sports infrastructure, including:

  • Sporting and Recreational Space Demands The need for well-structured changing rooms and toilets to accommodate students, referees, and umpires.
  • Student Safety Concerns Tackling vaping, bullying, and antisocial behaviour in communal areas..
  • Durability and Vandal Resistance Ensuring materials could withstand heavy use and potential damage in a high-traffic sports environment.
  • Aesthetic Integration Matching the school's existing infrastructure to maintain a cohesive visual identity.

Our Solution

Modus Australia worked closely with Padua College’s facilities managers through design consultations to create a tailored public amenity building , tailored to meet both recreational and sporting needs.

  • Single-Cubicle Design Eliminating communal areas to prevent congregating and discourage antisocial behaviour.
  • Vape Detectors Installed throughout to deter vaping and ensure compliance with school policies..
  • Angled Posts and Butterfly Roof: Aligning with existing school architecture while also providing effective rainwater catchment.
  • Colour Matching: Using Colorbond "Monument" and "Shale Grey" for seamless integration with Padua College’s branding.
  • Changing Facilities: Two large changing rooms designed to rugby league standards, ensuring students had appropriate spaces for team sports.
  • Referee and Umpire Rooms: Dedicated facilities with showers, secured with key access for controlled use.
  • Porcelain Fixtures Installed for durability and ease of maintenance.
  • Strategic Layout Male and female toilets positioned on opposite sides of the building, with separate umpire rooms for privacy and functionality.

An Outstanding Result

The modular toilet and changing facility enhances Padua College’s sporting and recreational spaces, setting a new standard for school restroom and sports infrastructure. By incorporating safety-focused features, a durable structure, and an aesthetic that aligns with the school’s identity, the project successfully delivers a long-term solution for student welfare and facility management.
