Turquoise Coast Camp Site

The Mid-West region of Western Australia has recently seen an upgrade of campsite facilities with new ablution blocks and shelters for camping enthusiasts to enjoy low-cost and free camping.

Ablution blocks for camping sites across Turquoise Coast

The Premier of Western Australia and Minister of Tourism Colin Barnett, officially opened the Turquoise Coast Camping Site redevelopments on 29 August 2016. Funding from the State Government’s Royalties for Regions scheme injected $1.5 million to make this campsite upgrade project possible. The refreshed regions popular campsite destinations can now be enjoyed by fishing and Australian camping site enthusiasts.

Tourist-ready campsites upgraded to enhance the West Australian experience

This prevalent stretch of WA’s Turquoise Coast has undergone significant redevelopment of four beautiful camping destinations between Jurien Bay and Kalbarri. As the Minister for Tourism, Premier Barnett supported this progressive project, which promotes increased tourism to the region and boosts local economies. The addition of public amenity buildings, BBQ shelters and expansion of the campsites, enhances the experience of caravan enthusiasts, campers and motorhome grey-nomads.

Grassy beachfront campsites across Western Australia’s Turquoise Coast now include restroom buildings, public shelters and fire pits. Campers are welcome to stay at sites for up to three nights at no charge, with their stay made more enjoyable by Modus Australia’s toilets and shelters on site.

Councils consolidate toilet buildings procurement allowing budgets to go further

Mid-Western Australian councils contacted Modus Australia to design a toilet building that met the design and functional requirements at all campsite locations. A custom laser-cut panel featuring a wave pattern was added to the toilet building façade design. Due to the remote location of the Turquoise Coast campsite locations, each of the ablution buildings integrated a self-contained sewage system. This includes a concrete holding tank with extraction fans which allows the natural breakdown of waste and neutralises odours. The budget stretched further by combined purchasing of Modus Australia toilet buildings between the various local governments. Modus Australia provided consistency across the initial purchase of eleven buildings and two subsequent additional toilet buildings to be supplied early in 2017.

Campsite ablution blocks specification included:

  • One Unisex AS1428 compliant universal access toilet cubicle
  • One Ambulant toilet cubicle
  • One standard toilet cubicle
  • Stainless steel toilet pans and hand basins
  • Laser-cut feature panels to verandah
  • Self-contained sewage system

Modus Australia are proud to have been involved with the Turquoise Coast campsites. Cost benefits were achieved by purchasing multiple modular toilet buildings and distributed to four local shires.
